Technopolarity describes the shift of global interdependencies away from traditional power structures towards an order influenced by technology and algorithms. Young people, in particular, heavily rely on algorithms for shaping their opinions and lifestyle choices. Social media platforms and online streaming services use algorithms to offer personalized content, thus targeting users’ preferences and beliefs deliberately. Politics, too, is significantly influenced by Technopolarity, as voters can be swayed through targeted online advertising and social media.
Technopolarity brings both opportunities and challenges. It enables faster access to information and more efficient networking, yet poses the risk of manipulation and control by powerful actors. To harness its benefits, we must be aware of our reliance on technology and ensure fairness and transparency in its implementation.
